Crowned Course

The snow feels like freshly pressed linen, corduroy‑groomed trails, and the lifts rise as faint yellow obelisks against a cerulean horizon.

From the summit of Carpenter, the air carries the dry, powdery whisper of a perfectly templated run, each panel of grooming a measured, symmetrical furrow. Below, the Silver Lake lift sits like a silvered lantern, its tower a muted taupe against the azure canopy, the passing snow a fine, white silk. The Empire lift, with its crisp, walled ribbing in charcoal gray, skirts the ridgeline like a private staircase. After ascending, the Viking Ridge runs—flat, lint‑like lanes devoid of chatter—offer the restful solitude I prize. Traversing out on the fall line from Lupine, a line of uninvited gliders nestles in the freshly laid crisp, with their sideways sliders whispering a dissonant rhythm. The Three‑Cross, a narrow, steely slope beyond the Empress, remains pristine, the only echo being the deliberate clink of the autobar. To skirt the crowd at the outset, dispatch a glide on the first closed parallel on the Carpenter's brow, then step into the quiet expanse of the Hawthorne Lagoon pillar.
