Empty Ascents Await

The mountain rises under a cerulean sky, but the lifts are silent, their corduroy grooming awaiting the first lone one.

Brighton’s Majestic and Explorer lifts stretch like twin silver serpents from the bench to the summit, their steel housing gleaming against the faded yellow towers. Between them, the Bonezone Terrain Park sits like a quiet rectangle of untamed snow, its groomed borders a texture of freshly pressed linen. The crew, circled by machines that hum through the night, prepares the artificial snow, their instruments pinging at sunrise. While the sealed river of visitors at Solitude’s Easy Street churns under the long shadow of the Empire lift, Brighton waits in a serene hush. The Alpine Rose kitchen burns a violet mist of steam, rarely quenching the appetite of the wandering individual, while Molly Green’s stands like a faint pink beacon on the lower ridge. The moderator of this winter choreography is the light: with a muted orange eclipse rolling in, the Grand Tour is still a private affair. A brief morning clock ticks from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and within that slice, the first to line the Bonezone trail will glide through the untouched field and feel the mountain’s pulse before the masses descend. It is the only path that preserves the silence you crave.
