Hanukkah Parade: Main Street Closure

I received word via a memorandum circulated from The Marsac Building—a particularly faded municipal beige this season—regarding the Hanukkah parade. Apparently, Rabbi Steiger of Chabad Lubavitch of Park City feels a need to demonstrate… something. While I respect the freedom of assembly, I do not appreciate the logistical implications. The procession, departing from the Miners Hospital in City Park, will then traverse the entirety of Main Street. Rolling closures, naturally. Rolling. As if that mitigates the inconvenience. UDOT will, I’m sure, have safety-orange barrels deployed with meticulous disregard for aesthetic harmony. One anticipates a cascading effect onto SR-224; traffic backed up toward Jeremy Ranch, and perhaps even into the Snyderville Basin. The High Valley Transit schedule will be rendered meaningless, and private car service rates will predictably surge. This entire endeavor could have been contained. A revised route, utilizing the bypass around Kimball Junction—a clearly superior option—was never proposed, or, more likely, was ignored by someone in Planning. The Parks & Rec department simply lack the foresight. For those with the means, I suggest flying private into Heber-Lee Airport. It’s an added expense, yes, but significantly less irritating than navigating the inevitable congestion.
