These ‘Main Street Living Room’ arrangements at Miner’s Park, commencing February 6th, are, shall we say, a strategic deployment of civic bonhomie. Casual seating, grab-and-go provisions from Main Street establishments – it's a carefully curated tableau of relaxed enthusiasm. Though one suspects the reality will be less ‘relaxed’ and more a scrum for a decent vantage point. The schedule, Mondays through Saturdays, indicates a commitment, but the 10 AM start on weekdays feels…optimistic, considering the general pace of life after Sundance.
The Park City Library, ever eager to demonstrate its community engagement, will be mirroring the coverage. A bilingual family storytime, featuring paper-plate ice skating – a charming detail, I suppose, if one overlooks the inevitable glitter situation. One wonders if Mrs. Van Derlyn will approve of the Library's foray into 'casual' event hosting. Frankly, it all feels a bit… earnest. A rather pointed contrast to the carefully calibrated detachment one expects during The Series. Still, one recognizes the necessity of appearing supportive. Perhaps a small donation to the Kimball Art Center will smooth things over.
