Summit County Court Access

The Kouri Richins proceedings, predictably, have created a minor disruption, and not of the criminal variety. Judge Richard Mrazik, attempting a semblance of fairness—a concept often lost within The Marsac Building—has allocated courtroom seating with a symmetry that, while aesthetically pleasing, serves no practical purpose. Two rows for the Richins family, two for the victim’s, and a single row reserved for the press corps; it’s all faded municipal beige and high-viz yellow vests documenting a tragedy. The problem, of course, isn’t the allocation, it’s the insufficient capacity to begin with. One assumes the Summit County Council never anticipated such public interest, or perhaps simply lacked the foresight to consider expanded facilities. UDOT handles far more complex traffic flow calculations daily. This closure of access to the general public is a systemic issue. The overflow, I suspect, will clog up Park City Municipal Corp parking near the Justice Center, impacting access to businesses on Woodrow Wilson Plaza. The real solution, as always, is to bypass the problem entirely. Avoid the Summit County Justice Center altogether; access the KPCW livestream and save yourself the frustration.
