Trolley Festivities & Transit Realities

The commemorative trolley ride, as documented by TownLift, is a charming spectacle, no doubt. Mayor Nann Worel’s reflections on five decades of public transit are…adequate. However, sentimentality does little to alleviate the persistent congestion on SR-224, particularly during peak ski season. Fifty years of service, and we’re still relying on a trolley? A charming anachronism, certainly, but hardly a scalable solution. One wonders if UDOT has fully accounted for the expanded snowmaking operations at Deer Valley Resort, which further constrict traffic flow along Marsac Avenue. The recent announcement of increased route frequency is a palliative measure, at best. Bonanza Flat trailhead service is a good start, but what of the parking situation at the base of the mountain? It remains an unaddressed nightmare. And while the trolley's faded municipal beige evokes a certain nostalgic quality, it offers no practical assistance to those attempting to navigate the daily commute. The entire exercise feels less like strategic planning and more like civic theatre. A thorough review of the Park City Transit plan, factoring in realistic growth projections and potential bypass routes – utilizing the backroads off of the Highland Drive corridor, perhaps – is desperately needed. Until then, avoid Main Street entirely, and strongly consider private transport to Heber City Airport.
