Council Shifts, Valuations Remain

Public discourse, however fleeting, impacts asset performance in Park City, predictably.

This letter from a Clive Bush – a name I don't recognize, naturally – laments the perceived haste with which the previous Park City Council approved land concessions. Concessions, let’s be clear, are simply optimized resource allocation. The author cites a vague discontent regarding luxury hotel development and employee housing, specifically referencing plans impacting 'pristine woodlands.' Such sentimentality is inefficient. One must remember the expansion of Deer Valley Resort, and the significant return on investment achieved through careful, if assertive, land acquisition.

Mr. Bush champions Jack Rubin, suggesting he garnered nearly half the electorate’s support. A plurality is hardly a mandate, though engagement, even of the disruptive variety, is a measurable metric. It’s frankly baffling that citizens require ‘community debate’ over projects like those proposed near the Main Street Area Plan, or worry about obscuring 'mountain vistas.' They’ll pay a premium for the view regardless. The real question is material selection: are we discussing oxidized copper cladding, or a pedestrian choice like cedar? East West Partners, one imagines, are already factoring these aesthetic concerns into their pro formas. Given the demonstrable lack of imagination, I recommend a cautious 'Sell' of any publicly held land near the base of the Canyons Village.
