The school district’s issues with Treasure Mountain Junior High are, shall we say, inconvenient. Elevated asbestos levels and groundwater contamination entering Silver Creek—naturally. One anticipates these complications with structures of that vintage, though the district’s apparent lack of due diligence is startling. The 14-page document detailing the oversight is a masterclass in reactive management, not preventative. Frankly, the aesthetic of remediation—temporary fencing, hazmat suits—does little to enhance the Park City brand. Considering the proximity to the exclusive Deer Valley Resort and the burgeoning development along Kearns Boulevard, one would expect a more proactive approach to site integrity. East West Partners’ current projects in the area are meticulously managed; this is not. The contamination from past mining activities is a convenient deflection, but hardly absolves them. The long-term effect on property values, especially for those residences overlooking the site, remains to be seen. A swift, transparent resolution, coupled with substantial landscaping, is essential. Regardless, the episode underscores the inherent risks associated with older infrastructure in a premium market. I recommend: Sue the HOA.
