Old Town: Monetizing Access

Park City Municipal Corp, predictably, has reinstated paid parking, a solution as elegant as a safety-orange barrel.

The reintroduction of hourly rates – one dollar until five PM, escalating to four, then five – across all surface lots and the Main Street garages, is… predictable. One expects a certain level of friction when navigating the Marsac Avenue corridor, but to actively incentivize congestion with tiered pricing feels almost performative. The Marsac Building, of course, remains largely unaffected, shielded as it is. Street parking, at three and five dollars respectively, adds another layer of complication. I observed a High Valley Transit bus attempting a three-point turn on 12th Street earlier, and the entire situation felt symbolic. Councilwoman Beerman, I suspect, views this as a revenue stream, rather than a holistic transportation strategy. It’s always about the bottom line, isn’t it? UDOT will, naturally, claim they’ve done everything possible to mitigate impact, but the flow along SR-224 will remain a constant, pastel-toned headache. The painted lines on the asphalt-black slurry, meticulously applied, provide minimal comfort. A workaround, naturally, exists: utilize the Richardson Flat bus depot and transfer. It’s inconvenient, admittedly, but far preferable to idling in that faded municipal beige parking structure.
