Park City Dominates Home Pool

Wednesday’s meet at the Park City Aquatics Center, nestled within Ecker Hill Middle School, saw the Park City High School swim team dispatch South Summit and Cottonwood. The scoreboard reflected expected results, yet the event felt less a competition than a meticulously choreographed exhibition. Senior Anna Klug, bound for the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, contributed predictably to the victory; a swimmer’s trajectory is rarely altered in January. More interesting was the emergence of Catherine Schofield, whose recruitment by UCLA and UCSD signals a deeper talent pool within the Park City program. Assistant coach Alec Goldfield rightly acknowledged the team’s performance “especially coming off of a long holiday break,” a nod to the conditioning and scheduling pressures inherent in a prolonged season. The sideline presence of former Park City swimmer Belle Matlby, now an Assistant Manager at the Ecker Hill Pool while matriculating at the University of Utah, revealed the program’s sustained influence. South Summit coach Leigh Anderson, a Park City native, offered a familiar face, yet the scoreboard told the full story. The team now turns its attention to Highland High, with Regionals and, inevitably, the state championships looming. The entire operation, overseen by Aquatics Coordinator Britt Mitchell, functions with a chalk-dust precision. Statement win.
