The ascent via the East Village Gondola, a Doppelmayr creation of unremarkable but efficient engineering, revealed a muted landscape. The cerulean sky was largely obscured by mercury-colored clouds, and the ridgeline, while visible, lacked the crisp definition one expects. It was, admittedly, a gray day. The cabins themselves are adequately appointed, though I observed unfortunate smudges on the interior glass—a lack of stewardship, frankly.
To be purposefully lost, even briefly, on familiar terrain possesses a quiet dignity. My initial trajectory down Clipper was…acceptable. The grooming possessed the texture of a freshly pressed linen suit, a detail not lost on me. However, the subsequent circuitous route – Ontario, Pinyon Express, then a fleeting moment at Silver Lake – highlighted the influx of what one might politely term ‘enthusiasts’. The uninvited, exhibiting their…preferred method of descent, were regrettably present.
The Revelator Express remains under observation. Its potential, however, is undeniable. A properly executed run down Redemption will demand attention. I did observe, from the vantage point of Cushing’s Cabin, a sun-bleached expanse of powder. The Offset was satisfactory, though I maintain a preference for the older vintages. The late-day light, filtered through the faded yellow lift towers of Carpenter, was almost pleasing. One must adapt, naturally.
To avoid the prevailing currents, commence your day with a descent on Bald Mountain. The emptiness is, at this hour, a virtue.
