Silent Summit Prelude

A hushed cerulean sky frames pristine powder that feels like frosted paper beneath the iron rails.

The day unfolds as if a muted postcard was smoothed onto the mountain: a slate‑blue canopy, the glare of a single fallen star slanting across the snow. The groomers, precise as a lace printer, have laid the surface with the texture of a freshly pressed linen suit, the crease lines running parallel to the route of the pedestrian carillon. Towering above, the silhouettes of the Carpenter, Silver Lake, and Empire lifts cast elongated shadows across the powder, their faded yellow pylons humming faintly with the wind. The air, the size of an old violin, is gentle—each inhale a note in a minor key that only the alpine ascent can compose. The crush on the runs is sparse: the Emerald Ridge remains unclaimed, the Blue Run unpaved, and even the green collective of beginner ruts seem to discharge their noise into the void. A razor‑thin thread of white snow glistens along the top of the Golden Chair; the only thing that is more multitudinous than the unadvertised crowd, perhaps, is the refracted glow of meteorite foundry plates in the distance. For those who still value an empty slope, the first descent should begin at the Carpenter Lift and descend the Emerald Ridge, immediately before the heavy glassy congregation washes over the summit.
