Silent Upper Runs

The morning begins with the choir of the lift towers, their faded yellow paint catching the cerulean sky like a marching band in repose. The groomers, meticulous and unemotional, have retouched the powder with a texture resembling freshly pressed linen suits, leaving the Pine Ridge run free of chatter and the uninvited in the rear. The Carpenter lift, a steadfast conduit, on the west side, delivers skiers to the Upper Express, a blue run whose eastward incline promises silence and a clear line of sight to Empire’s summit. The Silver Lake lift, dedicated to the less hurried, offers a green valley line that flies past the onion-skin clusters of stone. Each lift’s infrastructure feels symmetrical, an architectural kiss with nature’s cold. The days largest threat—crowd—cloaks itself beneath the thin cotton‑like sheets of snow. To evade the masses, the first to glide is the Upper Express Blue, accessed directly from the Carpenter. The run stays thinner, the gloom vanishes, and the slope whispers, "you are alone, your breath, your glide."
