Silent Velvet Slope

The day opens with a whisper of powder, a lone skier tributary gliding between the gilded beams of idle lifts.

Beneath a cerulean sky tinged with amber mist, the Carpenter lift rises like a faded yellow tower, its cables humming a quiet prelude to the day’s descent. Parallel, the silvery gleam of the Silver Lake lift arcs over the cobalt valley that would welcome those with patience. The Empire lift, a gleaming, mercury‑colored spine, claws upward, promising a path of smooth, corduroy‑like grooming. The run of the Silver Lake Bowl, a cylindrical ribbon of pristine weightlessness, runs in perfect symmetry with its twin on the opposite side, creating a balanced tide of space and possibility. Empire Trail, distinctly marked by a faint pastel sigh of icy grass, offers an exquisite, ghostly glide across a tongue of pack snow that has been carved with the texture of a freshly pressed linen suit. Carpenter’s Cascade, a narrow, vertical slice of gravely pure powder, keeps the silence, awaiting a rider who will respect its solitude. To tangibly avoid the inevitable congestion that gathers around the summit, skier should first tackle ‘Imperial Ridge’ off the Empire lift, where the slope narrows to an empty, echoing corridor, at which point other visitors will have already begun to evaporate into the morning’s hush.
