Town Lift Tumbles

The only line that climbs today is the Town Lift, a reluctant bridge to the pale summit.

A pale cerulean sky spills over a morning that is far too warm for a clean carve. The Town Lift – a thin strand of steel on the ridge – opens Saturday to offer a bridge of tolerable snow to the higher plateau. The rope feels like a sapphire ribbon threaded through the air, and the lift’s cables hum with the quiet of misbegotten enthusiasm. From the lower station the snow clings to the lift’s bases like a thin linen suit, each flake poised in an almost imperceptible rhythm. Carpenter remains stone‑still a fresh ridge above the current therapy of fallen snow; it will not bend until the next front arrives. Silver Lake, in its quiet ascent, preserves a reserve of powder that behaves like a freshly pressed ivory shirt in the wind. Empire’s lift, still half‑inhibited, will only become a true rhythm when the powder arrives in the late afternoon, though it presently lolls in a hushed anticipation. My recommendation is clear: begin at Red Pine Road, circumvent the congested face, and carve toward the untouched section of Another World. Turn right at the brush of the overgrown pine, then navigate the basalt boulder before the crowds catch on.
