One gathers the final iteration of the Sundance Film Festival—the 2026 edition, I'm reliably informed—has concluded, leaving a residue of reversible outerwear and wistful reminiscence. It appears the volunteers, those stalwart souls managing the Eccles and the Egyptian queues, are processing the shift to Boulder, Colorado. A move, frankly, that strikes me as strategically odd, though the Park City Institute will, no doubt, spin it as expansion. Carol Silverman’s jacket anecdotes were… detailed. One assumes the color blocking was far more successful than the attempt at a hooded version; a dreadful color clash is always a risk with festival wear. Cindy LoPatriello, a veteran of the U.S. Film and Video Festival days, is understandably ‘grieving,’ which is dramatically appropriate. The truly discerning avoided Main Street entirely, of course, preferring private screenings and the Kimball Art Center openings. Jen Shufro, formerly of public relations, attempting to ‘get in as many movies as possible’ smacks of desperation. One does appreciate the dedication of those who navigate the logistical labyrinth for the sake of art, or in the case of Godson Beaugelin, potential networking opportunities. The whole affair is tiring. Attend, if you have a driver and a strong constitution.

The predictable melancholy of a departing cultural force is always amplified by the logistics of parking.
