Winter Ballad of the White

The lift towers glisten in faded yellow, while crystal white, groomed in linen‑tight precision, poises the mountain for a quiet, almost melancholic descent.

From the chairlift that rattles between Carpenter and Silver Lake, the view over the Empire ridge glows in a cerulean haze. The snow, fresh enough to be a seam of cots—yet not yet the mechanism of thylacine powder—covers the blue‑coated trees in a manner akin to ivory drapery. The carrots of the terrain are neatly plucked from the run and channeled into a corridor of silence: Powder Monster, Silver Butte, and Aspen Gorge weave a pattern of symmetrical, parallel lanes that respect the mountain’s geometry. Sideways sliders bruise the upper decks of the chairlift, but their presence is appreciated only by those who value unestablished intersections of slope and scooter. The minute ridges at Emerald and Fern have been gently reclaimed by moderately high, snow‑makeable temperatures; the wet‑bulb numbers at midnight dip to a wintry 30, offering small but promising lullabies for the crystal grooming crew. For a moment of solitude before the crowds climb the low‑grade cargos, descend on Echelon, and then take to the first night‑run onto the Powder Monster.
