District Four: Peripheral Concerns

This Mr. Zeerip, a filmmaker from Oakley, announces his candidacy for Utah House District 4, citing a rather nebulous ‘obligation’ to intervene in matters best left to those actually administering them. The concerns are predictable: federal lands, healthcare, and, of course, the Great Salt Lake, all worthy of note, but hardly requiring the attention of a newly elected official. He seems to believe that simply voicing discontent constitutes action. It does not. The district covers Rich and Morgan counties, plus most of Summit County, excluding Park City proper and Summit Park, a geographic reality that ensures a degree of logistical complexity. To think he proposes to address statewide issues while contending with the peculiarities of Morgan County’s road maintenance is… optimistic. And to challenge Representative Auxier, with Connolly and Campbell already vying for position? A crowded field. The Marsac Building will be flooded with paperwork, and UDOT will undoubtedly receive more complaints about SR-224 congestion due to increased campaign activity. Honestly, the entire exercise feels inefficient. One wonders if he has ever navigated the Kimball Junction roundabout during peak season. A far better use of time, for him, and for everyone else, would be to simply utilize the High Valley Transit system. It's discreet, avoids the traffic on SR-224, and allows one to contemplate the fading municipal beige of the bus shelters in relative peace.
