The Park City Library, bless its civic heart, is attempting a ‘Noon Year’s Eve’ for the vertically challenged. Library Specialist Danielle Bean, a name new to my register, apparently feels the need to preemptively celebrate the turning of the year for those unable to sustain themselves until midnight. It’s…considerate, I suppose. The logistics are predictably quaint; crafting hats and ‘star wishing wands’ on the first floor, near Lucky One’s Coffee. One pictures a pastel swirl of felt and glitter. Last year, by all accounts, was a ‘success’ – a term used far too liberally in Park City. This year, Bean has ‘upped the ante’ with a beefed-up balloon drop. The dedication is admirable, if slightly alarming. It’s hardly the Kimball Art Center gala, with its champagne flutes and discreet sponsorship banners, nor the frenetic energy of The Series, but it offers a predictable, contained energy. The absence of a black-tie dress code is, frankly, a relief. Though one does wonder if the children will be discussing the nuances of post-modern art afterwards. Bean herself aspires to write a book, a pursuit she claims the library’s atmosphere aids; a noble, if predictable ambition. Registration isn't required, an alarming openness.

Library Balloons and Resolutions
One anticipates a certain level of… earnestness, when one considers events scheduled before the stroke of noon.
